%X Given the particularities of the environmental system of the regions verified in the Brazilian semi-arid context, we started with an empirical analysis of the Castro River sub-basin, Ceará. This is considered a unit of study and planning of the territory. It is inserted in part of the municipalities of Itapiúna, Canindé and Aratuba. In order to do so, the objective was to map the environmental limits of tolerance to the use and occupation. Thus, the relevant bibliographic materials, the techniques of remote sensing and geoprocessing and the results obtained in the field work were used. In this way, the study is based on the concepts of geographic science, based on the concept of limits of tolerance to use and occupation. For the mapping, a supervised classification of the satellite image in the SPRING 5.3 program was used, comprising the types of soil cover. Subsequently, the generated base (shapefile) was adapted to the mapping of the delimitation of tolerance limits. However, it was observed the definition of four levels of tolerance limits, highlighting the greater occurrence of low tolerance in which portions of the use and occupation are conserved or considered fragile and / or with a lower degree of intervention. This research aims to contribute to the expansion of knowledge in the Castro River sub-basin, as it can be applied to similar regions.
